Searchlights #1 and #2
Ugadaga Head, HD Dutch Harbor
Home  |  Dutch Harbor

Two portable type searchlights were installed atop Ugadaga Head in December of 1943. Each searchlight was supplied with a shelter for the light, a separate power plant shelter and a Distant Electrical Control station, or DEC. The shelters and power plants were made of corrugated 'elephant' steel, while the DECs were of wood frame construction.

Today, the #1 searchlight shelter and power plant are in reasonable shape, although the DEC has collapsed. The #2 shelter in still in evidence, but the power plant is gone and a quick search didn't reveal the DEC.

Also located at Ugadaga Head is HDOP 1 and some old Army housing.
