A SCR-296 radar was installed on a bluff between Caines Head and South Beach to provide targeting information to Battery Const. #293. However, according to Army documents, reception was very poor due to the high mountains and several islands in the detection area. The radar site included a 25 foot wooden tower, a 12 x 12 foot wood frame transmitter building, and two small power houses. |
