The Rocky Point Command Post is located on a bluff to the northeast of South Beach at an elevation of approximately 125 feet above sea level. The command post consists of four rooms: an observation room, a latrine and two rooms of unknown function. There is also a semi-collapsed wood frame addition over the entrance. The main part of the facility has a concrete floor and half-height concrete walls; the remainder of the walls and the roof are of wooden construction.
Documentation on this facility is incomplete and disagrees with observations of the actual installation. It is fairly well documented that by 1944 the structure was used as the Battery Command station for the 155-mm battery at Rocky Point. However, the Rocky Point Command Post is larger and more complex than a typical BC station, suggesting that it may originally have served other functions. |
