MET and HD Signal Station
Fort Bulkley, HD Seward
Home  |  Seward

The combined meteorological and HD Signal Station at Fort Bulkley is located about halfway between the HDCP and Battery Const. #294, at an elevation of approximately 460 feet. This station is similar in design to the combined MET/signal station at Camp Hayden in Puget Sound, consisting of two rooms and an unusually wide entrance corridor. Like many of the facilities on Rugged Island, the MET/signal station was abandoned before construction was completed. According to the 1944 B Annex: "The features remaining incomplete were the installation of the signal mast and the backfill."

Today there is a modern navigation aid located on the roof of the station. Also of note is the fact that the station is badly undercut and appears likely to drop to the shore below in the near future.
