Searchlight #7
Cape Chiniak, HD Kodiak
Home  |  Kodiak

The Coast Artillery installed searchlight #7 to the northwest of the other two Cape Chiniak searchlights. When needed, personnel would move the searchlight to its operating position in front of the combined power plant and shelter. It was then controlled remotely from the nearby Distant Electrical Control, or DEC, station.

Searchlight #7 exhibits the remains of a wooden structure built onto the front of the shelter, similar to remains at other searchlight sites. It is possible that these structures were installed after the war to protect and weatherproof the shelters.
