A number of small caliber automatic weapons were emplaced on Puffin Island, including two 40-mm AA guns, and several smaller machine guns. The ammunition for these guns was stored in two "Steel Igloo" (also referred to as "Elephant Steel") type magazines, located at either end of the island.
