Battle Allowance Magazines
Lake Dolgoi, Long Island, HD Kodiak
Home  |  Kodiak

Army documents indicate that four battle allowance magazines for Battery Tactical #4 were installed in the Lake Dolgoi area. Two of these magazines were recorded as concrete, while two were of "Steel Igloo" construction.

Two concrete magazines where located south of Lake Dolgoi, but the other two were not apparent as of 2005. It is possible the tabulation of magazines was in fact referring to a pair of magazines located nearer Deer Point. There are some discrepancies in the tabulation however, so it is difficult to say.

Detail of another shipping crate panel. Between this and the above two photos you can read most of the writing which is duplicated on a number of crates in the magazine. Apparently they each contained a single powder charge for a 6-inch M1900 gun. Interestingly, to my knowledge the Coast Artillery did not use any 6-inch M1900 guns in Kodiak.
